What is microsurgery?
Microsurgery is a technique used in many surgical specialties to enhance the surgeon’s view during surgery. In urology, microsurgical techniques are used in pediatric surgery, reconstructive surgery and most commonly in reproductive microsurgery, specifically vasectomy reversal surgery and varicocele ligation.
Microsurgical vasectomy reversal surgery involves an operating microscope that hangs over the patient on the surgical table. The magnified, crystal-clear view is far superior to that obtained using magnifying surgical glasses or the naked eye alone. This extra visualization is essential to maintain the extremely high success rates that are routinely obtained by vas reversal experts. In fact, the suture used for this operation is so thin that it is barely visible to the naked eye!
